Pochoir-coloured illustrations and culs-de-lampe by Gagnon, page 1 with colour-stencilled headpiece and opening initial. Contemporary brown half morocco over green paper boards by Canape and Corriez, spine with raised bands, gilt lettering and a mosaic of light brown morocco inlays, original front and back wrappers and spine bound in, top edge gilt, others uncut (light rubbing at extremities, covers discoloured). (Some leaves holed with loss of numerals and occasionally letters, some browning and soiling.) Brown morocco-backed marbled boards, original wrappers bound in. AUTHOR’S CORRECTED COPY FROM FIRST YEAR OF PUBLICATION. The front wrapper is inscribed ‘Exemplaire rare et corrigé par L.F. Rouquette’. Lictenberger’s 4-page preface is crossed through, as are the references to it on the wrapper and title; the reference to the printIng quantity, ‘4e mille’, is also deleted. Other corrections are mainly typographical but very frequent. There are just occasional alterations of word or phrase. With another edition of the same work, illustrated by André Collot (Paris, 1944); and Louis Hémon, Maria Chapelaine , illustrated by Clarence Gagnon (Paris, 1933), both quarto volumes in half morocco.
