Lots 77 to 84 THE BRIAN BROOKS COLLECTION OF WHISKY DISPENSERS AND MEASURES A collection of twelve Richardson's Patent glass whisky measures, mid/late 19th century, with variously inscribed stamped metal seals reading 'two ½ pint', 'five 1 gills', two ½ gills' and 'three ¼ gills', each with facet cut bodies, 10.5 to 17cm high (12) William Haden Richardson of Stourbridge Glass Makers and manager of Glasgow firm of James Couper & Sons, took out a patent for the invention of a new method of indicating stampings with a standard mark for containing spirits, beers and other liquids. The metal insert was stamped by an inspector from the Board of Trade with a crown, letters of the monarch and a number indicating the city where it was manufactured.
