Manuscript document from Jefferson County, KY, 30 July 1855 appointing Margaret Steele as guardian of “…Anna M. Steele, infant orphan of Robert Steele, decd., & under the age of fourteen years. Whereas she gave bond with John W. Anderson her security as required by law.” With foil blindstamped seal. Two documents relating to the death of William Connelly of Alton, IL. The first is a 13 x 17 in. broadside titled Death of the Earl of Derby, From the Liverpool Courier of the 9th July, 1851, with “By John Hurst Winn, Editor of the Liverpool Courier” manuscript between the head lines and the text body. [The article goes on to describe the Earl’s life and death, plus the funeral and the order of procession.] On the blank verso is a letter from the Liverpool Courier office, dated 8 July 1853, and addressed to a U.S. law firm. Mr. Winn is writing for his wife, who is the sister of the deceased William Connelly, who died suddenly, unmarried and intestate. The second document is actually several documents giving Zebadiah Guild power of attorney for Mrs. Winn regarding Mr. Connelly’s estate. The other documents have to do with recognition of American lawyers in England, and are signed by Samuel Holme, mayor of Liverpool. With all ribbons and seals. Partially printed document, 9 x 16.5 in., 16 June 1821. Sale of land in Pike County, Illinois by John Comstock of New Canaan, CT, represented by Daniel Smith Attorney (Illinois) to Titus Cornwall. German passport (Reise-Pass in das Ausland – “foreign travel pass”) for Jacob Metzger, 36 years old. Blond hair, blue eyes, 5’7”, issued in 1843 by the Kingdom of Bavaria.
