These are proof copies of 11 of the views used in Thompson & West's History of Sutter County and History of Nevada County published in 1879 and 1880, of larger format than the ones which appear in the book. They were acquired by the present owner from the great-grandson of C.L. Smith. The three Nevada County views are all of mining operations. Views comprise: "Ranch and Residence of A.L. Chandler. Nicholas"; "Stock Ranch of Moses Hopkins (Sheep Department.) Nicholas"; "North View of the Residence and Surroundings of J.E. Plaskett, on his Ranch of 800 acres, 6 miles West of Yuba City"; "Ranch of Berg Brothers, Residence of Herman and Frederick Berg. 2000 acres, suburbs of Yuba City"; Stock Ranch of Moses Hopkins. near Nicholas"; "Providence of G. & S. Mining Co., Nevada City"; "Idaho Quartz Mine, Grass Valley"; "Residence and Ranch of C.P.& R.C. Berry. Nicolaus" (closed tear at centerfold); "Ranch and Residence of R.C. de Nise.
