Beschreibung:

Lombard school of the 16th century A Pair of Dogs and A Bull A pair of tempera on panel 20 x 38 cm These two plates are of extreme interest as they are very stylistically similar to those of the TAV: XXIV-XXV published in Pittura Artigiana Lombarda del Rinascimento, a cura di Winifred Terni de Gregory, depicting common animals such as chickens, exotic ones such as the camel and fantastic ones such as the basilisk and hydra. Coming from the decorations of the wall bands and the ceilings of 15th-century Lombard churches and palaces, they represent a peculiarity of the Lombard territories of the time. Over the centuries many buildings have been demolished and some panels have been saved, others still exist today scattered throughout the Po Valley provinces of Lombardy. The qualitative contribution brought by the workshops of Bonifacio Bembo and Vincenzo Civerchio was significant in the most prestigious buildings. Some examples of these tables are preserved in prestigious international museums: Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Metropolitan Museum in New York, Poldi Pezzoli and Castello Sforzesco.
