Mixed material on composite base, Showcase Airplane, 2003, wingspan 11 inches, fuselage 14 inches, 11 3/4 inches tall, plaque on base reads: "X-44 Manta / Lockheed Martin / 1/48th."
Lockheed Martin's X-44 MANTA (Multi-Axis No-Tail Aircraft), was a conceptual aircraft design studied by NASA and the U.S. Air Force and was intended to test the feasibility of full yaw, pitch and roll authority without horizontal or vertical tailplanes. It was based on the F-22 Raptor, albeit without tail and incorporating a full delta wing. The model is also modified from that of an F-22.
