Francisco de Quevedo y Villegas, Cavallero de el Orden de Santiago, Secretario de su Magestad, y Senor de la Villa de la Torre de Juan Abad. ([The] Life and Posthumous Works of D. Francisco de Quevedo and Villegas, Knight of the Order of Santiago, Secretary to his Majesty, and Lord of the Villa de la Torre by Juan Abad.) Madrid: Juan de Sierra, 1729. The 3rd Part of a three part work. Octavo 18th C. vellum; pastedown endpages are re-used pages from another volume; with rawhide loops and buttons for closure; 302pp, plus 12pp index. Francisco Gomez de Quevedo y Santibanez Villegas (1580-1645) was born in Madrid into a noble family. Orphaned as a young child, he attended Jesuit school in Madrid, then university at Alcala de Henares. He also had a number of personal interests, including several languages. As a member of the King's court, he also took interest in religion and later would write anti-atheistic treatises. The end of the index of this book has "Laus Deo" (Praise God). Condition: Vellum bit stiff and normal yellowing; few tape repairs to covers; manuscript title to spine. Internally some occasional foxing/staining, but sound and complete.
