Liszt (Franz, 1811-1886). Autograph Testimonial Note in German, Signed ‘F. Liszt’, translating as ‘At the Concert, Grosvenor Gallery, 8th April 1886, I played with pleasure on the admirable Broadwood Grand Pianoforte’, 7.5 x 11.5cm, mounted beneath a photographic reproduction of the composer/pianist in profile, framed and glazed, modern photocopy with typed details and provenance on Broadwood Pianos letterhead pasted to frame verso. During his visit to London in 1886 Liszt played on four Broadwood Concert Grand Pianofortes and two other Broadwood instruments. On the day this note was written he played on No. 22021 at Mr Walter Bache’s Reception, Grosvenor Gallery. The provenance note, dated September 1995, also states that the original frame and mount were destroyed by vandalising burglars, the testimonial surviving and here remounted and reframed. (1)
