Henry Olympia Washington Territory," 17 July 1865, red three-cent Jefferson stamp slightly damaged at top right corner , cork cancellation, routing inscription "Overland route" at left, partial black circular "Chicago Ill." datestamp, on black-bordered mourning envelope, backside partly torn away in opening. Mary Lincoln was not granted the franking privilege for another six months, on 10 February 1866. Her letter, to a correspondent in the Pacific Northwest, was carried over the central overland route, following the old California-Oregon trail.
