Title: Life of General Stand Watie, the only Indian Brigadier General in the Confederate Army and the Last General to Surrender Author: Anderson, Mabel Washbourne Place: Pryor, OK Publisher: [Mayes County Republican] Date: [1915] Description: 58 pp. Illustrated from photographs. 8¾x5¾, original wrappers. First Edition. Scarce biography of the famed Cherokee Confederate general, written by his grandniece. Long before the Civil War, Watie assisted in the publication of the Cherokee Phoenix, and was a signatory of the 1835 treaty calling for the removal of the Cherokee to what is now Oklahoma. Watie and his men distinguished themselves during the Civil War, and he did not surrender until June 23, 1865, some three months after Robert E. Lee. Howes A232; Nevins II, p.26 (citing 1931 revised edition). Lot Amendments Condition: Wear along spine, restapled, ink notation at top of front wrapper "Geo. Edward Pickett Chapter, Enid, Okla.", else very good. Item number: 163032
