LEWIN, John (1770-1819)] -- CLARK, John Heaviside (1770-1863). Field Sports &c. &c. Of the Native Inhabitants of New South Wales . London: Edward Orme 1813. 4° (272 x 217mm). Dedication leaf to Rear Admiral Bligh, 10 hand-coloured aquatints by M. Dubourg after J. H. Clark, plates interleaved with tissue guards. (A few minor marginal spots.) Later morocco-backed papered boards gilt (boards slightly rubbed). A FINE COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION with pre-publication watermarks and beautifully coloured plates. This first issue later appeared as a supplement to Foreign Field Sports, Fisheries, Sporting Anecdotes... , published by H. R. Young in 1819. There is no evidence that Clark, an artist, author and engraver, ever visited Australia, and it has been suggested that the images derive from the original drawings of John William Lewin (see Rienits). Ferguson 551.
