Flesher, for Richard Marriot Date Published: 1651 Description: [6], 318 pp. Frontispiece portrait by Lombart. 18.5x13.5 cm (7¼x5¼"), period sheep. Letters sent by John Donne to various contemporary luminaries, collected by his son. With initial and terminal blank. Provenance: Bookplates of Bayfield Hall Library, Lawrence Strangman, Earl of Rosebery; Rosebery's stamp also on front flyleaf and leaf A3r. Archibald Primrose (1847-1929), 5th Earl of Rosebery and 1st Earl of Midlothian briefly served as Britain's Prime Minister in 1894-1895, and married Hannah de Rothschild, with their combined wealth, they amassed a fabulous book collection. Sold by Sothebys at the sale of his library in 1933, and again in 1965. ESTC R1211; Wing D1854. Condition: Joints slightly rubbed, leather somewhat stained, some minor repairs; slight wear and staining to first and last few leaves, less so to page edges throughout; overall quite a fresh copy, still near fine.
