Leica Camera. A Leica IIIa, 1937, modified to a IIIf (with flash synch), body with engraved serial number 264387, a new lens for 1937 (50mm/f2), serial number 389067, contained in a period leather case with stamped Waffenmacht symbol with swastika and number WaA217, plus leather strap and English manual (IIf/IIIf), circa 1955. The ‘Waffenmacht’ markings confirm that this camera was from 1937 and checked by a military checking group for cameras for use by the Intelligence Corps of the German Army. Each officer was assigned use of a particular group of characters, letters and numbers along with the symbol. This officer of WaA217 was also marking rifles made by Mauser in Berlin and cameras for the German army. . (1)
