Vernon, Iowa Publisher: Hawk-Eye Steam Print Date: 1892 Description: [ii], 40 pp. Two plates, one printed on both sides. 13x10 cm (5x4") original green printed wrappers. First Edition. "Only account by a survivor of the sufferings of the 1860 Utter-Myers emigrating party of fifty-four members, all but fifteen of whom perished from hunger or were killed by Indians on the Snake river in Idaho. Among overland disasters, equaled in horror only by that of the Donner Party; cannibalism was resorted to in both cases." - Howes. Rare, no copies appearing in modern auction records since 1999. Graff 1460; Howes H407. Lot Amendments Condition: Wrappers lightly worn and spotted; light foxing, final blank leaf pulled from staples but remaining attached to the rear wrapper; very good.
