Title: Leaves of Grass with Autograph Note, Signed Author: Whitman, Walt Place: London Publisher: G.P. Putnam's Sons Date: 1897 Description: 444 (of 446) pp. 7½x5, original wrappers. "Popular Edition". With a post card, addressed in Whitman's hand, to Prof. H[iram] Corson of Ithaca, NY, with a note on the reverse reading "Camden NJ April 29 '86. Yours rec'd yesterday - with enclosure. Thanks + I am ab't as usual. Walt Whitman". Also included are 2 photographs of Professor Hiram Corson. Corson was a professor of literature and his teaching career included positions at Girard College, St. Johns College, Annapolis, and Cornell University. He also worked in the library of the Smithsonian Institution. Professor Corson has signed the volume on both recto and verso of the half-title. Lot Amendments Condition: Volume in poor condition, lacking rear wrapper, spine and final page of text, several leaves detached including the half-title. Postcard with signature, very good.
