Leaf from the Statuta Synodalia of Cambrai, with a collection of leaves from legal manuscripts, in Latin, manuscripts on parchment [thirteenth to fourteenth century]11 leaves (incuding three bifolia): (a) leaf from a record of the Church Synods in Cambrai, double column of 33 lines in a gothic bookhand with stout letters and prominent lateral compression, these columns encased within a commentary in smaller script, paragraph marks and small initials in red and blue, trimmed at top, torn at edges, 290 by 220mm., France (doubtless Cambrai), late thirteenth century; (b) two leaves from the Corpus Iuris Civilis, each with double column of 43 lines in a good early gothic bookhand, initials and paragraph marks in alternate red and blue, trimmed at top, marginalia revealing use down to seventeenth century, 314 by 235mm., France, early thirteenth century; (c) parts of three leaves from the Corpus Iuris Civilis, with a double column of up to 40 lines within marginal commentary in smaller script, with red rubrics and red and blue initials encased within penwork in contrasting colours, largest piece 320 by 270mm., Italy, fourteenth century; plus another bifolium of the thirteenth century and a leaf and a partial bifolium of the fourteenth century; all recovered from bindings and with scuffs, losses, small holes and stains
