Le dodici fatiche di Hercole, tratte da diuersi autori, con il suo lamento, & morte . Florence: alle Scalee di Badia, [ca.1560]. 4° (217 x 145mm). Woodcut of Hercules on title-page and 14 illustrations in the text (including one repeat). (Small hole in Bl with very slight loss of text.) Late 19th/early 20th-century red crushed morocco gilt, uncut. Provenance : Baron Landau (bookplate). One of at least four undated editions with the Scalee di Badia imprint, this one not described by Mortimer but corresponding very closely to the Hofer copy. The illustration of Hercules on the title-page is a depiction of the statue which used to be in the Palazzo Farnese, and it and the text-illustrations are clearly contemporary with the date of printing, causing Fairfax Murray to consider his copy (now the Harvard copy) to be from the first edition and to opine that the woodcuts seem to have been by the same artist that illustrated some of Doni's works printed at Venice by Marcolini. Sander 3365; Mortimer, Harvard Italian , 154.
