Original half khaki Chinese canvas gilt [by Sangorski & Sutcliffe], gilt press device to upper cover, spine titled in gilt, top edge gilt, others uncut, clear dustwrapper, slipcase (dustwrapper cockled and torn with small losses, outer areas of slipcase faded). Provenance : Leonard Alfred George Strong (1896-1958, inscription on flyleaf 'To L.A.G. Strong, from Carlow. who printed this book. Sept: 1936.'). FIRST EDITION. LIMITED TO 128 COPIES, THIS NO. 96 OF 70 ON BARCHAM GREEN 'MEDWAY', SIGNED BY THE AUTHORS AND INSCRIBED BY THE PRINTER. This work reprints two speeches given at a Foyle's literary lunch held at Grosvenor House on 18 June 1935, to commemorate Lawrence. Hart's speech is titled 'Lawrence. "The Artist in War and Letters"' and Storrs' 'Lawrence. "Himself"'. This is the first book to be completed and printed by The Corvinus Press: the first book printed was an edition of Hart's speech, under the title Lawrence. "The Artist in War and Letters" , which was never issued. This copy was inscribed to the poet, novelist and critic L.A.G. Strong, whose Two Stories (1936) and Common Sense about Drama (1937) were both published by the Corvinus Press. Nash and Flavell 2; O'Brien E101.
