LAWRENCE, David Herbert. Lady Chatterley's Lover . Florence: Privately Printed, 1928. 8 o. Original mulberry colored boards printed with the Lawrence phoenix in black on the front cover, printed spine label, uncut (spine label with a few pale spots); glassine dust jacket (nicked along edges); quarter morocco slipcase. FIRST EDITION, LIMITED ISSUE, number 893 of 1000 copies signed by Lawrence. Lawrence once again faced numerous obstacles as he tried to get Lady Chatterley's Lover published. He commissioned the Tipografia Guintina in Florence to print the book, and sent order forms to friends in America and Europe who acted as agents in distributing copies. Although the Rechler and Epstein copies had cream paper dust jackets, the glassine dust jacket on this copy appears to be original, or at least contemporary to the date of publication. Roberts A42a.
