PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY LARREY: "A La Societé d'Anthropologie De la part de l'auteur Larrey." After the defeat of Napoleon, Larrey took up civilian practice and taught medicine in Paris. He published extensively on his medical innovations and observations. The present work on surgical pathology is his longest surgical treatise. Volumes 1-3 were published by Gabon in November 1829, but the edition was soon taken over by J.-B. Balliére, whose imprint dated 1830 wasfound on the wrappers of the Haskell F. Norman copy; the remaining volumes were published by Balliére in 1832 and 1836. This copy lacks the atlas to parts 1-3 only very rarely found with the work.
