Approximately 250 pp. of material overall, with numerous blank leaves as well. 34.5x20 cm (13½x8") original tooled leather. A book of newspaper clippings from the late 1800's, with articles on a wide variety of subjects - among them the assassination of president Lincoln and dispatches from the Civil War, general and trivial information and human interest stories, crime and murder, poetry and literature including works by Ambrose Bierce and Ella Wheeler Wilcox, sensational pieces ("The Secrets of the Harem," etc.) and obituaries, among many other miscellaneous clippings. Included are pieces on spiritualism, telepathy, and Eastern religions. Present as well are numerous manuscript leaves of what appears to be original poetry, with a large portion of one page apparently written in cipher. Lot Amendments Condition: Spine strip lacking, boards loose but holding, good amount of wear and staining to boards with areas of leather lacking; interior with a good amount of toning, browning and staining, a handful of leaves detached and laid in, one leaf with a clipping excised; overall fair or better.
