Portrait of the architect Leopold Krakauer (1890 - 1954). 1944. Vintage gelatin silver print (double exposure). 30 x 24 cm. Annotated by the photographer in pencil and photographer's Jerusalem stamp on the verso. Leopold Krakauer was born in Vienna in 1890. He was a student at the Department of Engineering and Architecture, Technical College, Vienna and in 1909 he studied architecture at the Imperial Academy of Arts in Vienna. As one of the finest architects of the International Style he immigrated to Palestine in 1924 after winning an architectural competition for Palestine. He worked on many projects and eventually moved to Jerusalem where he designed many houses and public buildings. – Corners slightly bumped, a few retouched spots, traces of previous mounting on the verso, otherwise in very good condition.
