Signed by Thomas Mifflin and James Grimble (Deputy Sheriff), regarding “the monies paid by Charles Gordon into the Receiver-General’s office…granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said Daniel Hartung a certain tract of land called ‘Kerry’…in Northampton County…”. Official embossed state paper seal (star-shape) on top left corner. A second diamond-shaped embossed paper seal on the verso, along with inked docketing, deed titling and a small map sketch providing text and numbers for the land discussed in the certificate. Thomas Mifflin (1744-1800) was the fifth and youngest President of the U.S. Congress under the Articles of Confederation. At the start of the Revolutionary War, Mifflin left Congress to serve in the Continental Army. He was commissioned a major, then became George Washington's “aide-de-camp” and, on August 14, 1775, became the army's first Quartermaster General. Served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1785-1788) and was a signer of the United States Constitution. Mifflin was the governor of Pennsylvania from 1790 to 1799.
