LABORDE, Léon-Emmanuel-Simon-Joseph de. Voyage de l'Arabie Pétrée par Léon de Laborde et Linant . Paris: Giard, 1830. Large 2° (570 x 410mm.). Half-title, lithographic title with vignette, 3 engraved and 66 lithographic plates, maps and plans, after Laborde and Linant de Bellefonds, 12 with two views on each plate, several double-page and folding, one hand-coloured, the views on india paper, mounted, wood-engraved illustrations, the index of plates bound in after the introduction. (Occasional light spotting to margins.) Contemporary red morocco, gilt, covers with broad arabesque-style borders, spine in seven sections similarly tooled, blue morocco lettering piece, g.e. FIRST EDITION of Laborde's account of his journey to Petra via Suez, Mount Sinai and Aqaba. After the completion of his tour of Asia Minor and Syria in 1826-27, Laborde returned to Cairo, setting out on his second expedition with Linant de Bellefonds in February 1828. Although Burckhardt, Irby and Mangles had explored Petra before Laborde, he was the first to make detailed drawings of the area. Blackmer 929.
