FIRST EDITION of this important description and illustration of the plants collected during the expedition under Rear-Admiral Bruny d'Entrecasteaux in search of La Perouse, 1791-95. Labillardiere, the French explorer and botanist, had studied medicine at Montpellier and had travelled in Syria in 1786 (his Icones plantarum Syriae rariorum began its publication in 1791).
