Evreux: Imprimerie de Département, 1791. Rare publication of the decree by the Assemblée Nationale ordering the publication at the nation's expense of La Pérouse's account and maps of his voyage to Botany Bay. La Pérouse had been sending his reports as and when he was able to, and had dispatched his last with the British ship Sirius in 1788. In February of 1791, when La Pérouse had still not returned, an edict was issued initiating a search for him, and the present decree promises to pay his salary to his wife in his absence. Bifolium (244 x 187mm). Engraved headpiece (faint waterstain at top edge). Modern red quarter morocco over marbled boards.
