American (Ohio or Kentucky), ca 1815-1820. A very unusual combination of a small serpentine server in mahogany, maple and cherry, and a tall case clock in mahogany with mahogany veneers and lightwood inlay. The server with bottle drawers under secret lock drawers, flanking a central bowed door with a shallow shelf, housing the lower portion of a tall case clock. The end panels of the server are outlined in quarter rounds; these and the turned legs are both ebonized.The clock face, with painted dial, reads, L. Watson, Cincinnati, Ohio, for clockmaker Luman Watson (w. 1819 - 1834). Works are wooden, one-day time-strike movement; ht. 92, wd. of server, 30.75. dp. of server, 17.5 in., 12 in. dial. Note: The waist door on the clock case puts the clock in Owen County, and in Woodford County, Kentucky, and was probably written by the people who repaired the clock. It reads: A M. Pershom from Owenton, / Owen, County, Ky, May 14 - 1869 / Feb. 23 - '78 Removed to / Woodford Co., KY / Versailes(sic) Post May 20 - 1881 May 13 - '87 May 20 - '97 Hermitage 8-12-1937 J. Johnson 8 - 12- 1937 A partial label on back reads: Mrs. Bill Br _ _ _t 1400 Lincoln Jamestown, NY The piece was found in Buffalo, New York. Condition: Pendulum bob and weights are later, some veneer missing, age cracks.
