λ EIGHT OVAL INDIAN IVORY PORTRAIT MINIATURES OF THE SIKH MAHARAJA RANJIT SINGH, HIS FAMILY AND THE SARDARS OF LAHORE Possibly Delhi or Punjab, Northern India, mid to late 19th century Opaque pigments on ivory, each medallion depicting a bust portrait of important royal personalities of the Lahore court including the 'Lion of Punjab', Maharaja Ranjit Singh (1780 - 1839); Maharani Jind Kaur (1817 - 1863) [Chanda Ranee]; her son Duleep Singh (1838 - 1893), the last Maharaja of the Sikh Empire; Maharaja Sher Singh (1807 - 1843), the elder twin of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Maharani Mehtab Kaur; and four sardars (nobility title), each portrait wrapped in lined paper and accompanied by a black ink inscription identifying the character, mounted, glazed and framed, each portrait approximately 3cm x 2.5cm, 23cm x 28cm including the frame. This item may require Export or CITES licences in order to leave the UK or the European Union. It is the buyer's responsibility to ensure that lots have the relevant licences before shipping.
