λ AUGUSTUS JOHN (BRITISH 1878-1961) NUDE STUDY Pencil and coloured crayon Signed (lower right) 46.5 x 30cm (18¼ x 11¾ in.)Provenance: Francis Taylor, USA Private Collection, Elizabeth Taylor, USA Sale, Christie's, The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor, London, 8 February 2012, lot 333Art dealer Francis Taylor, originally had a gallery on New Bond Street, London, during which he acquired a large number of works by Augustus John. When he relocated to California during the war, he continued selling Augustus's work in the US and a good number ended up with his daughter, the renowned actress, Elizabeth Taylor. The present drawing was one of a number of works to be sold as part of her collection at Christie's in 2012. We are grateful to Rebecca John for her kind assistance in cataloguing this lot.
