The first German edition of the first description of Kamchatka, in contemporary boards. Krasheninnikov joined Bering's second expedition and was sent ahead to Kamchatka with Steller as his assistant; this work was compiled from both men's researches, and includes Steller’s pioneering account of Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. Krasheninnikov also describes the dialects, customs, morals, and religion of local tribes, with special emphasis on the power exercised by shamans.
