Philadelphia. Fairmount Water-Works.
New York & Paris: Goupil, Vibert & Co., 1848. Lithograph, hand-colored (270 x 335 mm). Framed. Provenance: Martin P. Snyder. Exceptionally hand colored, this view of the Fairmount Waterworks depicts the city of Philadelphia beyond the Fairmount Suspension bridge erected in 1842. The figures in the foreground, the steamboat, and the Water-Works building all contribute to the sentiment that "Kollner focused on Philadelphia's street life, providing a realistic immediacy and another delightful series of Philadelphia views" (Wohl Collection). Wainwright, "Augustus Kollner, Artist" in PMHB, vol. 84, no. 3; Wohl Collection 165.
