Lot of two collotypes by Kolb Brothers: First is a 10.625 x 14 in. photograph of two men working their boat through canyon river rapids The photograph is from the same expedition as the one documented by a Kolb Brothers photograph sold previously by Cowan's, titled Hell's Half Mile, which included a description of a similar scene: This section of Ladore Canyon received the title "Hell's Half Mile" when Major Powell and party were on their expedition through the Green and Colorado River Canyons in 1869-1872. This picture was made on Kolb Brothers photographic expedition through the same canyons, including Grand Canyon of Arizona. Their journey began at Green River City, Wyoming, and terminated at Needles, California. The time consumed was 101 days; the descent 6000 feet, principally in dangerous rapids, of which there were more than three hundred. Kolb Brothers accomplished two-thirds of their journey, each rowing in a separate boat, a third party joining them for the balance of the trip.? Second is an 8 x 10 in. photograph on a 10.75 x 14 in. mount imprinted with the title Wedged Rock In Shinumo Canyon, 200 Feet Above Bass Trail. Condition: First with light edge and corner wear, else very good.
