Knick-Knacks from an Editor’s Table Author: Clark, Lewis Gaylord Place Published: New York Publisher: D. Appleton Date Published: 1853 Description: Frontispiece, engraved title and two plates. (8vo) original gilt decorated blue cloth, gilt lettering. Second printing. Inscribed and signed on the front endpaper. The first book by Lewis Gaylord Clark (1808-1873), a collection of Irvingesque essays and gossip that originally appeared in the Knickerbocker Magazine's "The Editor's Table" column, a precursor to the Talk of the Town in the New Yorker. Inscription reads: "“For Charles Astor Bristed, Esq. / With the Warm Regards of / His Friend / L. Gaylord Clark. / New York / April 25, ’53.” Clark was the editor of the Knickerbocker and friends of many in the New York literary scene. Bristed was also a regular contributor to the Knickerbocker.
