Kittlitz’s original German, describing his botanical discoveries made as part of the Litke expedition, is here translated by Berthold Seemann. The plates are photographic copies of the original copperplate engravings, which Sabin describes as “some of the most interesting representations ever published of the unusual forms of exotic vegetation.” Included here is the loose paper frame, “in order to be able to find the various plants alluded to in the letter-press.” Arctic Bib. 8765; Howes K-194; see Lada-Mocarski 119; Sabin 38025.
