KIRCHER, ATHANASIUS. 1602-1680.Arithmologia sive de abditis Numerorum mysteriis qua origo, antiquitas & fabrica numerorum exponitur.... Rome: Varese, 1665. 4to (230 x 165 mm). Engraved frontispiece, woodcut coat of arms on verso of title, numerous woodcut illustrations in text, three folding letterpress tables (one in red and black). Early eighteenth-century tan Neapolitan morocco, elaborately gilt with coats of arms on both covers, marbled endpapers. Rebacked retaining original spine and covers, with repairs to corners, dampstaining through first gathering, repaired tear through leaf L4, with minor loss of text, scattered browning. Provenance: Domenico Marzio Carafa, 8th Duke of Maddaloni (1706-1748, armorial binding).
