(King of England, Scotland & Ireland, 1630-85) Pardon to John Searle of Buckerell... all manner of treasons, crimes of Lèse majesté, raisings of war, rebellions and insurrections, and all and singular murders and killings and homicides by ambushes..., D., ,manuscript in Latin, on vellum, large engraved initial "C", portrait of Charles II and with engraved decoration at head including the royal arms, large remains of Great Seal in green wax, broken with loss and image rubbed and smoothed with some loss of detail, folds, creased, browned, framed and glazed, loose in frame, 600 x 760mm., 10th May 1661. *** John Searle was active against the king in the Civil War. In May 1643, following a Royalist victory at Stratton in Cornwall, Searle armed himself and other Buckerell men, with 58 others from nearby Awliscombe to prevent the passage of the king's army through Awliscombe.
