Autograph letter signed ("Jacqueline Kennedy") to Meyer Davis, Palm Beach, [27 December 1960]. 4 pages, 4to, ink very light, minor stains, autograph envelope . PLANNING THE KENNEDY INAUGURAL: "I DON'T WISH TO USE MY HUSBAND'S OFFICE TO SELL SHEET MUSIC AND RECORDS" In preparation for John F. Kennedy's inaugural ball, Jackie writes to Davis, the well-known society band leader whose band had played at the wedding of John Bouvier III in 1927 and the wedding of Jackie and Jack in Newport in 1953. In regard to an album to be released Mrs. Kennedy writes: "I would very much prefer that you do not use our photographs on the cover of your inaugural Album - also that you do not reprint my letter (Also no picture of me on cover of Jacqueline )." She is emphatic: "I feel that is commercializing on the Presidency - which is something I will fight against every day of my husband's administration...I do not wish to use my husband's office to sell sheet music and records - or anything else. And I don't want there to be Caroline Kennedy dolls etc." She tells Davis that her favorite song is "the Waltz from Traviata - Libiamo...I think my husband likes Greensleeves. We really don't have any favorites...I don't want this album to be billed as all our favorite songs - That is too corny." She concludes: "I wouldn't play 'Jacqueline' too often as people never like unfamiliar songs as much...I do look forward to seeing you January 20." [ With: ] KENNEDY, Jacqueline. Engraved manuscript. 1 page, small oblong, mourning stationery with engraved coat of arms . Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Kennedy sends a standard card to a sympathizer: "Mrs. Kennedy is deeply appreciative of your sympathy and grateful for your thoughtfulness." (2)
