Kate Burling Stairs Study, 2021 Oil on Primed Paper Signed on verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) Kate Burling is an artist from south east London. Her paintings play with hazy light to blend human-like figures with their domestic surroundings. Body and furniture are clothed together under regal dust sheet drapes, manipulated with guy ropes and sewn extensions. These restrict and contort the subject's range of movement, conjuring ideas around stillness, ritualistic iconism and uncomfortable headspace. Education Bachelor of Fine Art: Painting, Camberwell College of Art, 2019-present Foundation Diploma in Fine Art, The Art Academy, 2018-2019 Exhibitions Kate Burling exhibited with Guts Gallery and Soft Punk magazine in November 2020 with her debut solo show 'Eclipse of a Dodgy Lamp'. Since then she has exhibited with The Artist's Contemporary and Purslane Art. About the postcard artworks This composition was used for the titular piece for Kate's solo show 'Eclipse of a Dodgy Lamp'. The stairs and slumped figures have since become a recurring layout, acting as a frame for changing forms, colours and ideas in later work.
