KARL BLOSSFELDT Wundergarten der Natur -- The Magic Garden of Nature . Berlin: Verlag Für Kunstwissenschaft, 1932. Quarto (315 x 245mm). 120 black and white photographs. Original blue cloth, front cover blocked in gilt, spine and front cover lettered in gilt, original dust-jacket (dust-jacket spine and front panel with large chips, long tears, a few light spots, cloth edges lightly rubbed). FIRST EDITION, in dust-jacket. The second volume of Blossfeldt's three 'immensely popular, regularly reprinted "pictorial documents" (in Blossfeldt's prim words)... Blossfeldt's austerely elegant images could be made to serve many design ideologies. In 1929, a selection of the work was exhibited at the Bauhaus... but even before that Blossfeldt had become an unwitting avatar of the New Objectivity' ( 101 Books ). 101 Books , pp.48-9; The Open Book , pp.106-107.
