JUDAICA] The Mass Extermination of Jews in German Occupied Poland. Note addressed to the Governments of the United Nations on December 10th, 1942, and other documents . London: Hutchinson for the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs [1943]. Original printed cream self-wrappers, staple-bound as issued. 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches (21.5 x 14 cm); 16 pp. Foxing to the staples as usual, overall a fine copy of a fragile work. A major document of the Holocaust, this is the first public announcement of the systematic extermination of the Jewish populations of occupied Europe. It contains a printing of the July 22, 1942 Nazi deportation order issued to the Warsaw Jewish Council, an excerpt from the November 27, 1942 Polish Resolution condemning Nazi crimes against the Jews, the Joint Declaration by the Allied governments issued on December 17th, and the BBC broadcast made later that same day by the Polish Minster of Foreign Affairs, urging the world to immediately respond to the news of Germany's methods of mass extermination. Most importantly, it contains Edward Raczynski's account of the horrors of the depopulation of the Warsaw Ghetto and the systematic brutalization and murder of its occupants. This section is based in large part on the extraordinarily courageous mission of Jan Karski-Kozielski, who penetrated and escaped from a concentration camp. See Martin Gilbert Auschwitz and the Allies. C
