[Judaica] Ceremonies et coutumes religieuses de tous les peuples du monde [...]. Tome premier, qui contient les ceremonies des juifs & des chrétiens catholiques. Amsterdam, J.Fr. Bernard, 2 parts in 1 vol., folio: [12]-xlii-[8]-pp.; pl., 206-[pp.; pl. (browning, some foxing, waterstained throughout, 1 pl. split). Contemp. brown calf, gilt orn. spine with raised bands and label (used, spine part. missing). Complete first volume (of with beautiful plates (depicting i.a. Easter celebration, circumcision, Youm Kippur...) by Bernard Picart (1673-1733); these contributed to make this book famous. This "philosophical history of the religion of the nations of the two hemispheres" is a compilation extracted from the writings of R. Simon, J. Abbadie, Dupin, Thiers, Le Brun, Boulainvilliers etc., edited by the bookseller-publisher J. Fr. Bernard, Bruzen de La Martinière and a few others. Ref.
