Journal of Space Flight, 15 issues Author: Ketchum, Harold and Louis Grant, Jr., editors Place: Chicago, Ill. Publisher: Chicago Rocket Society Date: 1954-1956 Description: 15 issues: Sept. 1954: Jan., Sept.-Nov. 1955; Jan.-June, Sept.-Dec. 1956 (last issue). Approximately 20 mimeographed pages each. Original wrappers, stapled at spine. Formed after World War II as one of the most prominent local Rocket Societies this group's Journal of Space Flight focused on the conquest of space. Each issue included essays on such subjects as rocket experimentation and propulsion, spaceship and space station design, artificial satellites, extraterrestrial observatory, and life under low gravity; rocketry and space travel book reviews; and a “Rocket Newsletter” of membership chit-chat. The Chicago Society's effort to establish a national Federation of American Rocket Societies led to creation of an American Astronautical Society, which made local “amateur” societies somewhat superfluous. By the time of Sputnik, the Chicago Society was on its last legs but it seems to have survived until 1959, though the last Journal issue was in 1956. Lot Amendments Condition: Nine issues with holes punched at spine; 1 lacking rear wrapper; few tears to wrappers; good overall. Lots sold without reserve are sold "as is" and are not returnable under any circumstances. The minimum shipping and handling per invoice is $25 for shipments to the US and $40 for shipments sent outside the US Please consider this when determining your bid amounts Item number: 318023f
