Rodriguez's work stands as the only authenticated, first-hand account from the Tahitian discovery period. Rodriguez, who spent some 350 days in Tahiti, is known to have mastered the Tahitian language, whereas Wallis, Bougainville and Cook recorded numerous errors as fact due to their ignorance of the language.
