Original wrappers bound in. First Edition in Book Form. Translated from the Spanish original. First printed serially in successive issues of the Bulletin de la Société des Etudes Océaniennes. Rodriguez's work stands as the only authenticated, first-hand account from the Tahitian discovery period. Rodriguez, who spent some 350 days in Tahiti, is known to have mastered the Tahitian language, whereas Wallis, Bougainville and Cook recorded numerous errors as fact due to their ignorance of the language. A long inscription in French on front free endpaper, dated Papeete, 1949. Lot Amendments Condition: Binding lightly worn, bookplate removed; paper a touch browned; very good. Item number: 253398
