Title: Journal, Acts and Proceedings, of the Convention Assembled at Philadelphia, Monday, May 14, and Dissolved Monday, September 17, 1787, which formed the Constitution of the United States Author: Place: Boston Publisher: Printed and Published by Thomas B. Wait Date: 1819 Description: 510 pp. (8vo) 24x14.5 cm (9½x5½"), original boards, rebacked with paper, original paper spine label laid on. First Edition. The first publication of the long-secret journals and proceedings of the United States Constitutional Convention. At the close of the convention, William Johnson the secretary, delivered the materials to George Washington, the president of the convention, who in turn gave them to the Department of State in 1796. In 1818 Congress ordered that they be printed, which was accomplished under the supervision of John Quincy Adams, the Secretary of State. It is one of the major sources of the Founding period. Provenance: Signed by Edward Ingraham, noted American and author, dated 16 Aug. 1821. Lot Amendments Condition: Some staining and discoloration to covers, worn at edges and corners; faint browning and occasional light foxing within, very good or better pages untrimmed.
