Loxley started on his current path as a sculptor in 1989, after a near fatal experience with malaria, which he contracted while working as a safari driver in Kenya the previous year. He established a studio in Carrara, Italy, known for its world famous marble. It was also in Italy where Loxley honed his craft, studying marble sculpture techniques in Florence.Jonathan had several exhibitions in Italy and across Europe, and then in 1993, was commissioned by David Bowie to create a sculpture to celebrate Bowies marriage to Iman. In 1999, Loxley took part in The Shape of the Century - 100 Years of Sculpture in Britain at Canary Wharf, London. His work has also featured at the Hampton Court Flower Show, Henley Art Show and the Cass Foundations Goodwood Sculpture Park. Loxleys works play with ideas of weight and lightness, and through fluid shapes and textures, the heavy stone materials are transformed into weightless forms.
