Hill: "I don't think that it would do for Hill to 'leave any force unless all his works are finished.' They could do nothing, & would be exposed. I don't like that bridge of ice. It will take away the great souce of fear to the Yankees. I wish that Hill had thought sooner of his forts." Beauregard, Hill and Johnston all distinguished themselves in the First Battle of Bull Run (Manassas). Hill was promoted to Brig. General in February 1862.
