JOHN MANTON, LONDON AN 18-BORE FLINTLOCK SPORTING-MUSKET WITH BARREL BY NOCK, no visible serial numbers, circa 1795 and possibly originally built as a rifle, with replacement smoothbore octagonal 35 1/4in. barrel, applied bead fore-sight, the breech-block with inlaid gold poincon signed 'NOCK, LONDON' below a crown (rubbed), gold lined touch-hole, engraved top-tang marked '2', flat slightly curved colour hardened lock border engraved and signed 'MANTON' below the rainproof pan, musical trophy engraved to the pointed tail, swan-necked cock and roller bearing to the frizzen spring, walnut full-stock chequered at the wrist, raised cheek-piece, iron furniture, pineapple finials to the trigger-guard plate and ramrod throat, two ramrod pipes with rolled ends and probable replacement horn-tipped ramrod, 50 1/2in. overall, weight approximately 5 1/4lbs.
