JOHN JUKES (BRITISH, 1772-1851) James Silk Buckingham (1786-1855), in white shirt with a light blue coat, pink embroidered shawl around his shoulders and a white turban with a dagger secured in to his cummerbund; landscape background with a mosque on ivory rectangular, 4½ x 3¾ in. (115 x 95 mm.), gilt-metal frame, the reverse with paper label inscribed 'Miniature Portrait of myself, painted in Bombay, in 1816, by Mr. Jukes, an English Artist there, just after my journey overland into Egypt, Palastine, Mesopotamia & Persia: & while I wore the beard & dress there faithfully delineated - I was then 30 years old & the likeness was thought perfect JS Buckingham May 1843'
