John Christopherson, British 1921-1996 - Temple on old wall with climbing moon, 1959; oil on board, signed and dated lower right 'Christopherson 1959', 39.3 x 29.4 cm (ARR) Provenance: with Reginald Hill (d.2017), owner of Reille Gallery, London; private collection, gifted by the above Note: this sensational early work by the artist displays the influence of Jean Dubuffet on the artist in its handling of paint and sheer breadth of imagination. Christopherson exhibited widely throughout his career at at the Leicester Galleries, the Marjorie Parr Gallery and Agnews, with more recent memorial exhibitions held at England & Co. His correspondence, which includes from Ithell Colquhoun, and archive are now in the Tate Archive, London. A large number of his works are held by Kettle's Yard.
