Jessica Watts Pretty Boy Peter 2022 Oil on Card Signed on Verso 15 x 10cm (5¾ x 3¾ in.) About Once an advertising art director, Jessica Watts has amassed a collection of vintage printed ephemera which she revives in her artwork. She paints predominantly in oils but her art is rooted in collage. She plays with pattern and brightly-coloured blooms to accentuate the strength and beauty of the self-possessed woman. Thick brushstrokes sculpt the flowers' petals, accentuating their form and allowing them to stand out against the flatness of the patterned surfaces. 'The work is about feminine power, but it's not about sexual power: I wanted to see what happens to feminine identity when you strip away the male gaze. So much of our identities as women are tied to a male perspective of ourselves. This work is an attempt to reclaim femininity as something that can exist without searching for relevance or asking permission. The work is unashamedly pretty and joyful and connected to nature. It is unapologetic: pretty can be powerful, joy can have depth.' - Jessica Watts You must not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, resell or exploit any works.
